No School!  Labor Day.
(I plan on going into labor too, so I'm glad I have
this day off!)

Tues. 9/2
1.  What did the beads teach us?
2.  Quickly review observation, inference and experiment.
3.  Pass out Science Mystery Boxes.
4.  Draw predictions on board.
A.  Why all different?
B.  Compare data and make a class inference.
C.  Stress that the number of observations makes the
inferences better.
D.  Any tools that might help?
5.  Quickly do the 9 true and false questions.
6.  Homework! (20 room observations in complete
sentences.)

Weds. 9/3
1.  Collect homework.
2.  Share class inferences.
3.  Lab safety letters due tomorrow.
4.  Give notes on theory, law, observation and inference.
5.  Practice making observations and inferences with:
A.  Vinegar, baking soda and candle.
B.  Mg, HCL and bottle.
C.  Flag

Thurs. 9/4
Lab Day!
1.  Safety:
A.  Wear goggles.
B.  Don't let candle get wet.
C.  Don't steal matches or light stuff on fire.
D.  Throw used matches in glass bucket.
E.  Read carefully.  Don't need complete sentences.
2.  Do "Observation and Inference" Lab.
3.  Homework! (Finish Lab)

Fri. 9/5
Lab Day!
1.  Collect homework.
2.  Go over apple question from lab.
A.  Does anyone know why it happened yesterday?
3.  Safety:
A.  Read directions carefully.
B.  Only use as many seeds as it says.
C.  Remember if you're hot or cold.
D.  Label dishes with name and period.
E.  Don't work ahead.  Stick to Day 1.
4.  Put half of class into hot and half into cold.
5.  Do "Seed" Lab.

Mon. 9/8

Sorry, but my daughter's sick.
(I'll be in tomorrow.)

Tues. 9/9
1.  Pass out "How to read a bar/line graph".
2.  Explain graphing.
3.  Begin graphing with class.
4.  Homework! (The Great Graphing Worksheet)

Weds. 9/10
1.  Collect homework.
2.  Give notes on the Scientific Method.
*Relate to the Seed Lab.

Thurs. 9/11
**Classes affected due to assembly and
book scanning.**

1.  Review all scientific method notes relating to seed lab.
2.  Watch "Dirty Jobs".

Fri. 9/12
Lab Day!
1.  Do the first part of the "Experiments" sheet.
2.  Lab rules:
A.  Peel off and clean dishes.
B.  Count all seeds that sprouted, even if now dead.
C.  Make sure ou record if you are hot or cold.
D.  Use your notes.
E.  You can keep the seeds.
3.  Work on  "Seed" Lab.
4.  Homework! (Finish Lab)

Mon. 9/15
1.  Do second part of "Experiments" sheet.
2.  Give out measurement notes.
A.  Give out Science Tools sheet.
3.  Explain homework.
4.  Homework! (The Legend of Joey the Metric Knight)

Tues. 9/16
Lab Day!
1. Collect homework.
2.  Show graduated cylinder.
A.  Sizes for different voumes.
B.  Meniscus.
3.  Show triple beam balances.
A.  Show how to zero.
B.  Show how to read.
C.  Mass cups.
4.  Do "Balance Practice" Lab.

Weds. 9/17

1. Remember:
A.  Meniscus
B.  Use the eye dropper.
C.  Units!!
D.  Use the size you need.
2.  Rules:
A.  Shake dry.
B.  Food coloring will stain.
C.  Labs due today.
3.  Do "Volume Measurement" Lab and collect.

Thurs. 9/18
Lab Day!
1. Quickly review measurements.
2.  Explain metric tape measures.
A.  1 m = 100 cm
B.  Use end of clip.
C.  Units!!
3.  Do "Measurement Practice" Lab and collect.

Fri. 9/19
Lab Day!
1. Review parts of the scientific method.
2.  Introduce Paper Towel Lab:
A.  You can test anything you wish.
B.  Only have 1 independent variable.
C.  What's your dependent variable?
D.  You need at least three controls.
E.  If possible, repeat experiment twice.
3.  Rules:
A.  Label brands so you don't forget.
B.  You should re-do it, if possible.
C.  Use any tools you like.
D.  Make it a good one.  It's a 2 day lab.
4.  Begin "Paper Towel" Lab.

Mon. 9/22
Lab Day!
1. Quickly explain how to shoot a rubberband cannon.
2.  Explain graphs.
3.  Remember rules of Paper Towel Lab.
4.  Labs are due today!
5.  Finish and collect the Paper Towel Lab.

Tues. 9/23
Lab Day!
1.Rules:
A.  No shooting with hands.
B.  Stretch out tape measure first.
C.  Measure from the middle of the band.
D.  Don't steal.
E.  Keep base of cannon on line.
F.  Go fast.
G.  Graphs due Monday.
H.  Winners get gum.
2.  Do "Rubberband Cannon" Lab.

Weds. 9/24
You get the day off.
We get meetings.
